Islamiyat

Faith is not one lesson on the timetable but the soul of the whole school.

Our ethos

Knowledge and faith as one

In the Department of Islamiyat, faith is not one lesson on the timetable but the soul of the whole school. Our aim is to raise students who know their Lord, love His Messenger ﷺ and live by the Qur'an and Sunnah with understanding and sincerity. We teach the sacred sciences in clear English, grounded in authentic evidence: creed (ʿaqīdah), worship and jurisprudence (fiqh), prophetic tradition (ḥadīth), the life of the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions (sīrah), and noble character (adab). In this way knowledge becomes a lived practice rather than memorised information.

We follow the way of the righteous predecessors (the salaf), present the strongest scholarly position together with its evidence while respecting the genuine differences of the madhāhib, and connect every ruling to the wisdom and mercy behind it, so that our students grow in both knowledge and faith.

The Fiqh al-Muyassar Contextualisation Project

A central initiative of the department is the Fiqh al-Muyassar Contextualisation Project, a multi-year effort to build a complete English-medium fiqh curriculum for students aged 14 to 18. It is anchored in al-Fiqh al-Muyassar (الفقه الميسر), the simplified work of jurisprudence prepared under the supervision of Shaykh Dr. Ṣāliḥ ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Āl al-Shaykh, which we render into clear, classroom-ready English without diluting its precision.

The project follows a consistent method: each ruling is presented with its evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah; the adopted position is stated plainly while real differences between the madhāhib are acknowledged; and ḥadīths are referenced with proper takhrīj and verified against trusted scholarly sources.

Its growing set of materials includes a Student Notes booklet, a Teacher Resource Pack, and focused study booklets on individual chapters, among them a Book of Marriage (Kitāb al-Nikāḥ). Each is fully referenced and designed for direct use in the classroom, and supported by staff workshops as the curriculum is rolled out.
